9 reasons why 2015 was a great year | The World of Suzy Homemaker - www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk @SuzyHomemakerUK

Do you take a moment to pride yourself on your achievements? Bask in the glory of your accomplishments? Take time to give yourself a great big pat on the back for a job well done? Or do you rush through life, lurching from one tick box on your To Do List to the next; never taking credit for all the hard work you've done to get you to where you are?

Yeah, me too. I'm a lurcher. A butterfly. I flit from one fragrant task to the next, rarely stopping to smell the roses. That's why I started this blog. The name Suzy Homemaker may have been born of a veiled insult – I am, after all, the complete antithesis of that particular 1960s icon – but rambling on about what goes on in my world seemed like a brilliant way to document my journey and hold us accountable to all that STUFF we want to get done.

When I say "we" naturally, I mean me. Beloved is a "glass half full" kinda guy. It's me who sees only what needs to be done and forgets how much we've already achieved.

So today, in this second week of the New Year, as the weather turns icy cold and frankly, I'm feeling about as motivated as a hibernating Mama Bear, I'm taking a breath. A moment to look back on the past 12 months, to remind myself why 2015 was such a great year. Come. Join me. Together, we'll give ourselves the good boot up the arse we need to shake those January blues!

A fresh start.

So what's the number 1 reason that New Year's Resolutions fail?

I'll tell you.

Xmas-Brain-Overload.jpg

Don't you sometimes feel in need of a right good defrag?

If you're thinking anything other than a computer analogy then you, my friend, have a filthy mind!

I'm referring of course to ram. Thinking room.

Headspace.

The Witch is in! | Happy Halloween from The World of Suzy Homemaker

The Witch is in and Halloween is FINALLY here! Whoop!!

I spent most of (ok... ALL!) of yesterday transforming OneandSeventy for Halloween. Samhain is my New Year. For me, it's the biggest night in the calendar - WAY bigger than Christmas, so I MAY have gone a little nuts.

Me? Go overboard? NEVER!

I'm really looking forward to welcoming the neighbourhood Trick or Treaters later and maybe even a few passing spirits.

UK-Car-Tax-Disc.jpg

***WARNING*** Major rant alert, complete with CAPITAL LETTERS and over-zealous use of punctuation!!!! {--- like that.

If you drive a car in the UK, you'll know all about car tax. You'll also know that in October 2014, the DVLA did away with the familiar paper tax disc and introduced payments by direct debit.

At first glance, it all seemed like a great idea. No more fiddly tax disc cluttering up our windscreens and the ability to spread the cost over a year. Bonus! However, with the first anniversary almost upon us, the glitches are starting to show.

Since I started driving in 198... *cough*, I've never so much as had a single issue taxing a car. But this year, so far my latest renewal has involved 4 telephone calls to the DVLA and 3 failed attempts at applying for my tax online. Grrr!
