3 Scary Dolls for Halloween

3 Scary Dolls for Halloween | The World of Suzy Homemaker @SuzyHomemakerUK

I take no credit for the whole scary doll thing.

It was all Beloved's idea.

I simply executed it.

After all, who gets scared by a girl's toy?

Creepy Doll in a Lantern

"You know what'd look great for Halloween? A creepy doll sitting in that lantern."

And those, my friends, were Beloved's exact words one night, back when said lantern was part of my summer décor.

Just in case he tries to deny it.

So off I popped to the charity shop and look who I found!

How deliciously hideous is she? She had me in mind of Mrs Bates from Psycho.

The lady in Katharine House Hospice (who always seems to have exactly what I need) remarked how wonderful it was that someone was giving the red doll a home.

"hmmm... you might not say that when you hear the plans I have for her", said I.

I almost cackled.

All she needed was fake blood, a machete (which I knocked up on my Cricut), and a couple of blood-soaked, severed hands for effect and she was soon ready to scare the pants off any passing Trick or Treater.

Excellent.

Also lurking on the shelves of Katharine House was Philippa.

It's ok. I haven't started channelling spirits of a doll.

(Now that really would be weird.)

Pretty little thing that Philippa was, I actually bought her for the stand she was on (which is now propping up Mrs Bates). It just so happens, the stand had the doll's name written on it.

I gave Philippa a ghostly makeover with White Acrylic Paint, then painted on eyebrows and lashes with a black permanent marker.

Her dead black eyes are courtesy of a couple of layers of black Nail Polish.

The addition of a little silver cross was a nice touch, don't you think? Keeps all those Zombies away...

Mwah ha ha!

OK, I fess up. Philippa wasn't actually Beloved's idea and neither was this one, but I still blame him entirely. He has spawned a Halloween Doll monster!

My Glow in the Dark Zombie Ghost Doll was inspired by this brilliant image I discovered on Pinterest.

Ghost Doll in a frame via Pinterest

At the time I pinned it, there were no DIY instructions. So I winged it.

First, I needed a head. So my mate Izzy (aged 8½) traded 2 sparkly evening bags for one of her dolls. What a star!

AND she wasn't in the least bit fazed by my plans. Not even when she heard that decapitation was in her doll's future.

Atta girl! Definitely a Princess of Halloween in the making, if ever I saw one!

I bought a cheap oval mirror with a gothic-looking black frame from B&M, carried out said decapitation, then stuck the head to the mirror with Superglue. After leaving it to dry until it was fully adhered, I went about covering the doll and the mirror with cotton makeup wipes soaked in PVA glue.

(They were the nearest things I had to cheesecloth.)

Once dried and the "cheesecloth" was hard, I painted the head with Glow in the Dark paint, which I picked up from Hobbycraft last Halloween, but never used.

What do you think?

Pretty effective?

Oh I do like it when a plan comes together.

Just call me Mrs Macabre.

And maybe a touch easily led.

A hui hou,
