How to create VIPs on your iOS device

Having VIPs on my iOS devices is one of those really handy tools that I use every day, but I always seem to forget how to add a contact to my VIP List! I figured, if I needed a reminder, perhaps you might like one too.

As a Personal Assistant who works primarily in the virtual world, I rely heavily on tech to do my job. After years of working with windows, I'm now primarily a Mac user, although I do still have my trusty PC for those times when it's needed.

I like working with the Mac for many reasons, not least of which because it links seamlessly with my other weapons of choice, the iPhone and iPad. Having said that, I have to admit to becoming rather disappointed with my iPhone of late. The battery life is shocking and, as someone who uses my iPhone for photography (a LOT!), my head is being turned by several competitors who are offering far better cameras, for far less money!

There's every chance I may consider jumping ship at some point but until then, I want to get the best out of what I already have. One way of doing that is to ensure I never miss an e-mail from an important person, or VIP.

iOS treats messages from VIP senders in a special way. They are collected in a unique VIP Mailbox and, crucially for me, the iPhone and iPad alert me when an e-mail arrives from one of my VIP contacts. By adding clients to my VIP List, it means I never miss an all-important e-mail requesting work.

Brilliant!

How to add or remove a VIP contact in iPhone or iPad Mail

  • Open Mail on your iPhone or iPad
  • Go to your list of Mailboxes
  • Tap the "i" button next to VIP
  • Select Add VIP… at the end of the list
  • Choose your desired contact

To remove a contact from your VIP list, simply left swipe on the contact and hit delete or hit Edit at the top and delete one or more contacts from the list. Note that this will NOT delete a contact from your address book, only remove it from your VIP list.

Simples!

A hui hou,

I didn't know you worked as a virtual p.a. I'm just starting as a virtual with a company called Time Etc. I loved temping as a p.a. years ago, so I'm hoping it will be something I can do again. Another Apple fan here. The VIP option for mail is handy, isn't it.

Hey Alison. Welcome to the wonderful world of VAs! Are you with Time Etc in Birmingham? We're practically neighbours! Do seek me on LinkedIn, Facebook and my other Twitter account (all @SueCoVPA) - it's always great to connect with other VAs.
