Keep Calm and Ignore the Mess

Keep Calm and Ignore the Mess | The World of Suzy Homemaker

"You have to break a few eggs to make an omelette." So they say.

Well if that's the case we'd best get some ingredients in, because Beloved and I are going to be eating omelettes for months!

I'm suddenly reminded of that line in Forrest Gump. You know the one, where Bubba reels off everything he can do with shrimp? "Anyways, like I was sayin' there's all kinds a omelette. There's ham & cheese omelette, potato and bacon omelette, cheesy chicken omelette, mushroom omelette, salmon omelette, there's even omelettes in a bag..."

Now that's a lot of omelettes. Not unlike the amount of mess at OneandSeventy right now.

Have you ever noticed how moving stuff around in one room, can have a knock on effect in the rest of the house?

Just lately, I've been feeling a bit blah and lacking in motivation. I keep looking around at all the things I want to get done in the house and absolutely nothing floats my boat. It either seems entirely too daunting, or I simply can't be arsed.

Last Friday, during another moment of boredom, I decided to give myself a kick up the backside and start organising my office. Between the business and the blog, I have a LOT of stuff and for the longest time, I've been lusting after a beautifully styled, yet functional bookcase wall in which to house it all.

Something like this...

*sigh*

In a world where pennies are no object and Beloved doesn't refer to IKEA as "The Nasty Shop", I would head straight for the white Kallax aisle. Instead, tapping into a previously unknown reserve of restraint, I elected to re-use what I already had.

Hello Birch Billy.

But before I could move two of my Billy bookcases, I had to first empty their contents and, erm, well move them from their existing homes in the lounge and dining room.

Cue synchronised chaos in three rooms...

And a checklist that'll keep me out of trouble for quite some time.

OFFICE MAKEOVER TO DO LIST

  • Repair any ceiling (and any wall) paper where required
  • Paint wall & skirting boards
  • Paint window sill
  • Put up vinyl artwork (are you intrigued?)
  • Line shelf backs
  • Upcycle existing box files and storage boxes
  • Upcycle storage tins
  • Upcycle storage jars
  • (Buy more paint)
  • Upcycle plastic drawer unit
  • Populate and style new bookshelf wall
  • Create and install a new shelf
  • Create and install DIY Perspex planner (yep, I'll be leaving the tough one to last!)

OFFICE BUCKET LIST

  • Bonsai
  • Vintage Typewriter
  • New Desk Lamp
  • New Watering can

And that's just the office!

Well I won't be bored for a while with that lot, that's for sure.

It's amazing. One small change and suddenly, the energy has completely shifted and I'm all enthused. I can't wait to start working through my lists and bring you the changes I've made.

Since "enthused" is one of my Core Desired Feelings, it's no surprise to me that I'm excited; I just had to find the *thing* to re-ignite my motivation. Although waking up in the middle of the night with new ideas can be a bit of a pain. Lucky for me I'm my own boss, so if I need to sleep in after a restless night visualising all those projects, I can. #lovemyjob

Do please keep popping back to The World of Suzy Homemaker, to see how I get on. In fact, why you're here, why not keep up to date with my progress and hit the subscribe to blog button at the top of the page? That way, you'll never miss a post!

OK. Blatant subscriber begging session over.

A hui hou,
