Merħba Malta!

Suzy Homemaker's Cunard Mediterranean Competition Pinterest Board

When I received a post earlier this week from a fellow blogger, I knew I needed an immediate trip to Malta.

Well it turns out that Cunard has teamed up with Jen Stanbrook at Love Chic Living and Denise Grayson at The Swelle Life, to offer fellow bloggers the chance to win £1,000 of John Lewis vouchers.

All we have to do is choose one of Cunard's Mediterranean cruise destinations and create a mood board on Pinterest of all the images from this port of call which inspire us to bring the Mediterranean into our homes.

Hold up!

A competition to win a cool grand to spend at one of my favourite stores... and all I have to do is play on Pinterest?

Well THIS was an opportunity too good to miss!

When it came to choosing from Cunard's list of 52 Mediterranean cruise destinations, there was only one port for my Pinterest Board... Valletta.

Merħba (Hello) Malta!

I know I don't look old enough (!) but I was raised at a time and in an environment where holidays abroad were rare. Like so many, my parents worked their socks off for 50 weeks of the year to afford their two weeks in the sun and for many years, the family's destination of choice was Malta.

Indeed, I vividly remember my first foreign holiday in Sliema – the fireworks (oh how the Maltese love a good Festa!), nightly after-dinner walks along the promenade, my first dress, my first taste of swordfish, my first encounter with sea urchins (ouch!) and my first sunburn (double ouch!)

Can't think why

For reasons best left for another post, childhood memories like these are also rare. I guess that's why Malta holds such a special place in my heart.

To be honest, I'd forgotten quite how much until I started gathering together my collection of inspirational pins. Here are a few of my favourites, but do take a moment to drop by the board for the full selection.

A trip to Malta is not complete without a visit to the factory to see the artisans at work.

Last but certainly not least, the iconic red telephone box outside a Maltese Police station...
I once showered in a re-purposed telephone box. Cracking idea!

A return visit to the island is well overdue. Maybe one day, Beloved and I might just find ourselves aboard a Cunard Queen, docking at the Valletta Waterfront.

But until such time I can make it to Malta, I shall just have to rely on my mood board to bring Malta to me.

A hui hou,
