Sit for a Spell - A Halloween chair makeover with free template | The World of Suzy Homemaker

I can't believe Samhain is only a few days away. Blimey! This year is whizzing past! It feels like only yesterday I started all my Halloween projects and now, I'm almost finished.

Soon I'll be on to the best bit. Decorating the house. Yay! I can't wait! Even though I am full of cold courtesy of Beloved and feeling pretty pants. Boo!

By way of an apology, he has offered to help ready OneandSeventy for all those Trick or Treaters. It *may* involve getting out his drill.

That'll learn him.

Sit for a spell

Not for the first time, Pinterest provided the inspiration for my latest project.

When I saw this chair from Atta Girl Says, I was so smitten I just had to have one!

All I needed was black paint, white vinyl and my lovely Cricut Explore Air.

Oh! And a suitable chair.

I looked long and hard, but I found nothing. Just as I was about to give up, local retailer Uttoxeter Resales came to my rescue. He'd heard of my plight through one of my gorgeous subscribers and very kindly donated a lovely pine chair for my makeover.

Wonderful, wonderful man!

THANK YOU!

Catch your breath

Painting the chair was quick and easy. One coat of Americana Decor chalk paint in Carbon was enough to cover the pine.

Although the transformation was already looking great, the feel of the chalky finish put my teeth on edge. So, I decided on a second coat, using some black silk emulsion I had left over from our Guest Room Makeover.

But don't stay too long

After creating the text in a spiral, the Cricut did the rest.

I was so chuffed with the end result, I confess to doing a little happy dance.

For once, a project was smooth sailing, without any hiccups and looks exactly how I imagined it!

Or you'll catch your death

Although the chair was inspired by that Pinterest post, the spell itself is entirely my own creation.

The words came to me while I was on the airplane to Gran Canaria last month (yeah, I know!) and I designed it all out from scratch on Photoshop.

I am SO delighted with the way this turned out, I wanted to offer my spell as a free template to all you fellow cutting machine addicts. You could create your own chair, or cut it out on cardboard, or even fabric.

Never fear! If you don't use a cutting machine, you can use it as a printable in any way you please. Frame it as a piece of art, perhaps, or use it as a digital image. Just as long as you credit me as your source, it would make this little witch very happy to know that it's come in handy.

To access the template, simply click on the image below and you'll be taken to the full size PNG file.

Enjoy!

I love that you were inspired by my chair, and I love how yours turned out. The spell is perfect for Halloween. Alas, it looks like I'm going to have to replace my chair, as the wood has split from several years exposure to the elements. I may have to use your template to make a new one.

I would be honoured, Amy! I'm sorry to hear about your chair. I'll be keeping mine indoors - I can just imagine what would happen with Halloween weather and painted furniture otherwise! Thanks for stopping by and for sharing your original project.
