What defines you?

Nothing defines me, Confessions of a Shopaholic | www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

During my period of enforced downtime at the back end of last year, I had a lot of time on my hands. I spent much of it improving @SuzyHomemakerUK's social media presence, by connecting with fabulous people all over the world on Twitter, Instagram, Google+ and Pinterest.

I also discovered Canva - a brilliant app that allows me to while away many an engrossed hour designing visuals, without ever leaving my sofa. (Did someone mention addiction?)

I even managed to take in a few of my favourite films - Practical Magic, Miss Congeniality and Confessions of a Shopaholic to name a few.

Who doesn't love a chick flick?

It was while I was following the exploits of Rebecca Greenwood (and lusting over THOSE Pucci boots) that I realised just how much of a voice The World of Suzy Homemaker has given me; much like that of the Girl in the green scarf.

I love how this blog gives me the opportunity to share my ramblings with the world (although whether anyone actually thinks I have anything interesting to say is another story!)

But the film also left me with an interesting question. One I'm not sure I can answer.

What DEFINES me?

Is it that I'm a Saaf Eaast Lunden girl, with a cockney accent? A little gobby, a bit brash, but a big softy wrapped up inside a hard outer shell?

My boys would likely say it's my many personalities... they don't call me Schiz and Borg for nothing (bloody cheek!)

Perhaps it's my legendary organisational skills, or my quest to rid the world of apostrophe abuse?

It could be my love of home and my innate talent for spending hours moving items an inch here and an inch there, until I'm pleased with them.

But wait! What about my deep affection for Gucci, Vuitton and Choo?

Or my passion for whisky?

Am I defined by the company I keep? Or, like Rebecca's Dad, does nothing define me quite like family?

It's certainly true that whether I like it or not, my upbringing had a massive impact on the way I am, while my greatest achievement is bagging a husband who is utterly devoted to me and can make me laugh before 10am.

But does any one thing really define me?

Or could it be, just maybe, a combination of all of these things... and more?

It's a question I'm still pondering.

What about you? Is there something you think particularly defines you? Or are you like me... a mass of contradictions?

I'd love to hear your views!

A hui hou,

Always a good question! I too think I am an amalgamation of all of my good and not-so-good bits so if someone defines me as one thing, another will define me as something else - but I don't define myself. I just love me for me and being undefined gives me the opportunity to grow and change whenever I need to x

Great post and one that had my mind running, bouncing back and forth. The more I thought something defined me the more I changed my mind and went onto something else. I've decided on one thing without a doubt... I too am woman of contradictions. Maybe what defines me is being a scatter brain, after all I often have to apologies for my blondness getting in my eyes :D Ultimately though, out of the many, many things I can say defines me as a person, it has to be not giving a damn what others think of me. :)

I believe we develop a little every day and therefore we change a little as well - mostly for the better one would hope.
I'd like to think that I already had a fairly acceptable grasp on my grammar but, during the time I worked with you, it was brought to a new level and I too now have the aspostrophe addiction!
Thanks for your frankness, pedantic attention to detail and support during that time!

I'm starting to wonder if being a contradiction is to be feared or embraced, Sammy :p
