UK-Car-Tax-Disc.jpg

***WARNING*** Major rant alert, complete with CAPITAL LETTERS and over-zealous use of punctuation!!!! {--- like that.

If you drive a car in the UK, you'll know all about car tax. You'll also know that in October 2014, the DVLA did away with the familiar paper tax disc and introduced payments by direct debit.

At first glance, it all seemed like a great idea. No more fiddly tax disc cluttering up our windscreens and the ability to spread the cost over a year. Bonus! However, with the first anniversary almost upon us, the glitches are starting to show.

Since I started driving in 198... *cough*, I've never so much as had a single issue taxing a car. But this year, so far my latest renewal has involved 4 telephone calls to the DVLA and 3 failed attempts at applying for my tax online. Grrr!

Halloween Shopping Haul | @SuzyHomemakerUK

When I left you last week, I was rambling on about managing the onset of SAD syndrome by making a start on this year's Halloween crafts. It wasn't my intention to get all deep and meaningful, but I guess if I'm going to write a blog about life on my planet, there's a very good chance the good will be joined by a little of the bad and the ugly!

Getting back to the fun stuff, I had a brilliant weekend. Crafting aside, women the world over will attest to that other magical cure for depression... retail therapy. Put 'em together and what have you got?

One HELL of a Halloween shopping haul!

I don't normally post round-ups, but I am SO excited about my shopping trip, I just had to share my spoils with you. That way, if you feel the urge to splurge, you'll have a head start on where to go for all things Halloween.

Halloween Apothecary | @SuzyHomemakerUK

Hello my lovelies. How's your week been? Me, I've been having a brilliant time! I've spent the last few days knee-deep in potions, powders bats and spiders.

The World of Suzy Homemaker is preparing for Halloween!

Yes, yes... I know it's only August. If truth be told, it's a little early for all things spooky even for me, but you know what? Day after day of wall-to-wall grey skies was killing me.

Remember how last week, I lamented the non-existence of summer so much that I decided to sell my Bon Jovi collection? Well, little improvement on the weather front and autumn looming far too close on the horizon, had me in need of a serious shot of excitement to stop me spiralling into a deep, dark hole.

Sue and Richie Sambora, backstage at Count Basie, New Jersey, 1994 | The World of Suzy Homemaker

Hello my lovelies. Are you enjoying the summer? What there's been of it, I mean.

Usually, come August, I like to take it easy. As in, total wind down. For a whole month, I normally relocate my office to the garden and do only what's necessary for my clients and very little else... all from the comfort of my sun lounger.

Bliss.

Well, yes... ordinarily. Only this year, the weather's been so abysmal, my lounger's practically gathering dust. I've had no choice but to find other ways to occupy my time.

Japanese Garden Bexley, Kent Charity Open Day 2015 | The World of Suzy Homemaker

If you've had a chance to nosey around the blog, or been following the various social media exploits of @SuzyHomemakerUK, you'll know that Beloved and I are relatively new transplants to Staffordshire, having relocated from Kent a few years ago. Last weekend, we returned to our old stomping ground for an exciting World of Suzy Homemaker exclusive.

I was over the moon to be invited to preview "Wonders of the Orient", a stunning Japanese style garden in Bexley, ahead of its charity open day on Sunday, 26th July.

This magnificent private garden opens to the public for one day only, to raise much-needed funds for Demelza House Children's Hospice. If you're in the area, I wholeheartedly recommend you swing by for a visit. As if seeing the garden wasn't enough, there will also be plants, collectables, live music and homemade refreshments.
