3 Scary Dolls for Halloween | The World of Suzy Homemaker @SuzyHomemakerUK

I take no credit for the whole scary doll thing.

It was all Beloved's idea.

I simply executed it.

After all, who gets scared by a girl's toy?

Halloween Apothecary potion bottles by @SuzyHomemakerUK

So. It's September. According to the weatherman, that means Autumn's arrived. But anyone living in Blighty will know it's been Autumn for, oh... at least the LAST MONTH! Apparently, we've just had the wettest August on record. No, really? Any Brit could've told 'em that, just by looking out the window!

Sadly, it seems September isn't starting out any better and now it's even getting a bit nippy in the mornings and evenings. Marvellous. But on the bright side, September also means it's no longer too early to talk Halloween!

Yay!

As you know, I've had Halloween on the brain for weeks now, so I thought it was about time I revealed some of what's been bubbling in my cauldron. First up, it's potions and poisons... complete with 9 FREE bottle labels for you to download, so you can get started on Halloween yourself.

Halloween Shopping Haul | @SuzyHomemakerUK

When I left you last week, I was rambling on about managing the onset of SAD syndrome by making a start on this year's Halloween crafts. It wasn't my intention to get all deep and meaningful, but I guess if I'm going to write a blog about life on my planet, there's a very good chance the good will be joined by a little of the bad and the ugly!

Getting back to the fun stuff, I had a brilliant weekend. Crafting aside, women the world over will attest to that other magical cure for depression... retail therapy. Put 'em together and what have you got?

One HELL of a Halloween shopping haul!

I don't normally post round-ups, but I am SO excited about my shopping trip, I just had to share my spoils with you. That way, if you feel the urge to splurge, you'll have a head start on where to go for all things Halloween.

DIY Song Lyrics Canvas | www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

If you're looking for a unique and very personal gift for your Valentine, you can't go far wrong with something homemade and a piece of artwork that features words from your special song is very romantic.

When I bought a metre-long canvas from my favourite Buy/Sell/Swap Facebook site, I had no idea what I was going to do with it. It was cheap, so I bought it!

After months of leaning against a wall in my office, I finally decided it was going in the Master Bedroom, but that was about as far as I got. I still had no clue what I was going to use it for. It was then that Beloved made the brilliant suggestion of making a bigger version of my Glittering Canvas to use as a bedside light.

Oh how I heart that man!

Upcycled Charity Shop Art by www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

A few months back, I spotted a fabulous pair of matching gold picture frames in a charity shop, that I thought would look gorgeous as part of my ongoing master bedroom makeover.

Although tempted to keep the vintage peonies they housed, I really wanted to use the frames for my own artwork.

Autumn Mantel by www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

With each turn of the yearly wheel comes a great swathe of seasonal decorating ideas. Pinterest or Instagram users cannot fail to have noticed all the wonderful images of Autumn's influence in the home.

If you've been following along with my ramblings, you'll know that I like to decorate my mantel for each of the ancient festivals, such as Ostara (Easter) and Samhain (Hallowe'en).

But since launching The World of Suzy Homemaker and my ever-increasing use of the word "pretty" (!), I've also had a hankering for updating my mantel with the Seasons.

Even more so since my recent fireplace surround and mantel makeover!

DIY Ouija Board - www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

I was a keen crafter long before the birth of The World of Suzy Homemaker. I was well-known among friends and colleagues for my handmade greetings cards and I've dabbled in all sorts of techniques over the years.

It wasn't long after moving into OneandSeventy that I got itchy fingers and started looking for things to make. One such project was a Ouija Talking Tray, which was inspired by this image that I found on Etsy.

/blog/tags/tag/b2ap3_thumbnail_Ouija_inspiration.png

I've always been fascinated with Ouija Boards, not necessarily for attempting to communicate with the dearly departed (assuming you believe that's possible), but for their beauty.

3D Mache Wall Art by www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

Even before The World of Suzy Homemaker was so much as a twinkle, I could be found in the aisles of Hobbycraft, searching for bits to play with, as Beloved trailed forlornly in my wake...carrying the basket!

These days, the baskets have wheels, but Beloved's "HELP ME!" expression remains.

You gotta feel for hubby, right?

It was during one such long-forgotten expedition, that I discovered mache letters and ever since I brought them home, they've been staring at me from the corner of my office, challenging me to do something with them.

Way back when, I made a little dolphin frame for a porpoise-loving friend.

It wasn't much, just a small token, but my friend absolutely adored it.

That was in 2001.

Since then, my friend's dolphin has taken pride of place in every bathroom of every house she has lived in.

Guest Room Makeover - www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

Save those unforeseen, yet nevertheless inevitable, additions and re-arranging of "stuff" (oh! and a new light fitting!), OneandSeventy's Guest Room makeover is pretty much complete.

Yay!

After a stunning transformation from Fairytale Castle to Cool Monochrome, it was time to accessorise. If you missed it, you can catch up on the story so far here and here.

Curtains

When I first visualised this primarily black and white room, I knew it needed a pop of colour to bring it alive. IKEA's funky Bollkaktus curtains were perfect. So much so, that Beloved drove 200 miles and braved "The Nasty Shop" not once, but twice to buy these babies! (Translation: it pays to check product availability before setting out! Sorry darling!)

Cutting Board and Rotary Cutter - www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

Some time in my dim and distant past, I remember being given a vintage Singer sewing machine.

I was a tomboy, used to climbing trees. I didn’t have the slightest idea about using a sewing machine and I had zero interest in learning.  I was also far too young to appreciate the beauty of such a fabulous piece, although now I wish I had.

The vintage Singer is long gone, but she sure was pretty, huh?

Pink flowers and butterfly Birthday Card - www.suzy-homemaker.co.uk

Making greetings cards has been my creative outlet for years.  I even managed to eke out a part-time income from them for a while. I still make cards for friends and family and enjoy taking commissions for bespoke creations.

Here are a few of my favs.  As you can see, my love of monochrome extends beyond interiors!

I'll add more images as this blog grows.
